Tungnath trek

Tungnath (tung means arms) is the highest lord shiva temple in the world situated in chandranath parvat chopta in rudrapryag district of Uttarakhand. It is the third Kedar(tritya kedar) of the panch kedars. It is highest but the easiest one to trek. It is considered to be more than1000 years old and discovered by Adi Shankaracharya. The temple is dedicated to lord shiva and few other idols of goddess Parvati.

The temple is surrounded by meadow and gives a panoramic 360-degree view of Himalayan peaks like Chaukhamba , Trisul parvat, Panchchali peak and Nanda Devi peak. It is around 3-4 km long trek starting from chopta market, it will take approx. 2-3 hours to complete the trek. Hence it is good for the begginers.

chandrashila(moon rock)

Chandrashila is steep 1.5 km trek from Tunganath temple. It is believed to be the place where lord Rama meditated after defeating Ravan. Also, it is said that moon god Chndra spent time here in penance. When I reached at the top I got scared because I have acrophobia, still I spent 2 hours sitting at Chandrashila 😇
